REMEMBERING BRADLEY NOWELL - AN ARTIST IS BORN - February 22, 2014

Today's special An Artist Is Born birthday shoutout goes out in remembrance of BRADLEY NOWELL (1968). A singer, guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter and producer, Nowell was best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of ska punk band SUBLIME. Sublime has sold over 10 million albums in the United States and over 17 million albums worldwide. They were one of the most popular bands of the third wave of ska, and had two singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. Nowell's Dalmatian, Lou Dog, was the mascot of the group and often wandered the stage during the band's performances. Unfortunately, Nowell died of an overdose in 1996. Sublime's self-titled album and most commercially successful effort was released 2 months after his death.

Other notable music birthdays today include singer Ernie K-Doe (1936), singer Bobby Hendricks (1938), singer Oliver (1945), Wire bassist Graham Lewis (1953), Loudness lead guitarist Akira Takasaki (1961), Michael Wilton of Queensyrche (1962), and metal bassist Byron Stroud (1969).
