After months of hard work, the adult group put together a stellar six-song set list and rocked on to set the scene before the West Des Moines adult band continued the jams.
Since opening in August, the Ankeny school has gathered a great group of musicians. After just over three months of preparation, the adult group made its debut at Kenny’s Garage in Waukee in early December with six songs under the “one-hit wonders” theme.
The night opened with a rendition of A-Ha’s Take on Me, followed by other familiar hits.
Alyssa Ervelli is a singer in the group. Performing on stage with her family in the audience was a special treat.
“I feel good. I think a lot of it is adrenaline, you know. So I feel good,” she said after the set.
Besides being prepared and feeling confident, Ervelli says audience engagement helps pump up the band.
“A lot of people were hyped! There was this one guy in particular who was standing up. So I was able to kind of get the energy going,” she said.
After Hours, the West Des Moines adult band took the stage later in the evening, performing a set that features music from previous seasons, including classic rock and garage rock. There’s something about The Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive that always gets the crowd out of their seats and the bar becomes a mini disco.
We love shows like this because we can show off many of our talented musicians, all part of the School of Rock family!
