Busy Summer Months at SOR

It was another busy summer month at School of Rock across the state! Here’s a look at what we were up to.

STEM day at Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids: More than 60 vendors showed off the cool parts of science and engineering with kids and their families. We were excited to share the science behind guitars with the crowd. We were a returning vendor. See the fun last year here.

Ankeny Summerfest: The West Des Moines house band kicked off the string of shows at the District’s new stage. We were honored to be able to play on a new stage. The show was one last push of fundraising before our big shows on the road in North Carolina/Ohio.

Johnston Farmer’s Market: The West Des Moines house band partnered with two house bands from Minnesota - St. Paul and Eden Prairie. Each group played a one-hour set for shoppers that cruised by.

Huxley Party in the Park: We were honored to be the live performer at this community celebration. Organizers sold walking tacos to fundraise for the Huxley Public Library. While families enjoyed the company of their neighbors, we shared our music throughout the two-hour event at Railroad Park.

Queen City Rock Fest in Cincinnati & New Moon Mountain Festival in Chapel Hill: For the first time, our West Des Moines and Cedar Rapids house band members were invited to play at the two festivals. Each band played a full set.

The New Moon Mountain Festival is being coordinated by School of Rock Chapel Hill and is limited to seven schools. This experience is a camp experience, where students will stay on campus in the dorms. During the camp, students got to perform around campus. They were put into what’s called “Super Groups”.

The musicians played alongside students from other house bands. It was a fast-paced experience as they rehearsed daily and put together a brand-new set that was performed at the end of the camp at the Iconic Orange Peel in Downtown Asheville.

We’re always grateful for your support of our students and their ambition to pursue music. Summer is flying by and we hope to rock out in the great outdoors before we inch closer to colder conditions.
