FEBRUARY STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MADISON GREEN

Making music lessons engaging is Madison's goal as an instructor. She teaches multiple instruments and groups at the West Des Moines school.

Madison Green has been involved with music since sixth grade as a singer in the school choir and guitar lessons.

"I started to take it more seriously when I applied to a performing arts charter and got accepted," they said.

Besides teaching, she recently became an assistant director and co-leading the Best of the 2010s set.

"I enjoy how I can teach, perform, and learn at the place I’m in," she said.

Not many musicians realize they want to teach immediately. Madison says she got started in teaching after talking with a former instructor. So with their childhood experience, helping others became enjoyable right away. She believes every lesson should be engaging for the student.

"As a child, I learned music technique first, which there is nothing wrong with that of course I got to learn all the ins and outs, but my engagement would vary often," she said. "Students that want to learn technique will then seek it out and those that don't will seek out other means and routes to learn music and become proficient."

While this teacher continues to create memorable and engaging lessons for students, hopefully, that will motivate and inspire more aspiring musicians, like Madison from sixth grade.

More about Madison:

Favorite song to perform: She says there are a few songs recently:  The Winner Takes it All or Some Bittersweet by Lianne La Haves and You and I by Lady Gaga

Fun fact: "I have two rabbits that are my pride and joy. Mister Nut and Princess Peach are the sweetest little free-roam bunnies that run around my house like cats," Madison said.
