Pink Floyd is one of the most celebrated and influential rock acts of all time. Formed in London in 1965, the band decided to name themselves after Delta bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The band began with an experimental Pop sound, led by frontman Syd Barrett. but after Barrett’s departure became Prog Rock heavyweights known for their ambitious songwriting, atmospheric textures, killer guitar solos, and spell-binding stage show. Pink Floyd has sold more than 250 million albums worldwide, and their album Dark Side of the Moon spent a record 724 consecutive weeks - almost 14 years - on the Billboard Top 200 chart. This show will be a survey of their entire career – from the weird early days of Piper at the Gates of Dawn, to the massively successful trilogy of Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals, to the gradual dissolution of the band in The Wall and later albums. Catapulting many iconic artists who played this landmark music festival into superstar status, Woodstock embodies the spirit of the 60s. It was a watershed moment for Rock and Roll, and this show celebrates the legendary, and very stylistically diverse, artists who promoted unity and embraced freedom of expression while performing at the festival. Songs by The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Grateful Dead and more make this show an exciting and well-balanced educational challenge for all instruments and experience levels!
ARENA ROCK *FEATURED SHOW* / rehearses Fridays 6:00-8:00 beginning FEB 21:
Arena Rock refers to the emergence of rock ‘n’ roll as big business in the 1970s and early 1980s. Advances in music production technology, along with the proliferation of higher fidelity FM radio stations, resulted in the arrival of a slicker, more commercial rock sound, popularized by bands such as Journey, Boston, Styx, Heart, Queen, Foreigner, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Grand Funk Railroad, Toto, Cheap Trick, and more. These artists, and the growing music industry behind them, brought Rock ‘n’ Roll out of the clubs and into the arenas and stadiums. No matter the bands, the songs of the Arena Rock show are the true stars, and anyone who’s had the joy to sing along with this music in its intended environment will surely agree. This is catchy music that is meant to be turned up loud! Guitarists will find challenging parts lurking around every corner. Keyboard players will be showcased heavily. Vocalists will be challenged with belting leads and rich harmonies. Drummers will learn the true meaning of bombastic, over-the-top performances. Bass players will get their hands on powerful and melodic bass lines which compliment their 6-string counterparts. This is a great show for all instruments!
