"Even the greatest was once a beginner. Don't be afraid to take that first step."
Muhammad Ali
Rock 101 is our beginner and intermediate band program at School of Rock! Every journey starts here. We believe that kids learn quicker and have way more fun when they get to make music together.
Rock 101 gets students proficient on their instruments while learning to play in time with other kids in their band!
Students enrolled in Rock 101 receive:
- a weekly 90-minute band rehearsal
- a weekly 30 or 45-minute private lesson
We teach Bass, Guitar, Keys/Piano, Vocals and Drums
Our Rock 101 students have opportunities every few months to perform and shake off stage fright before moving on to the next, more advanced program. Students are encouraged to also take advantage of our Open Mics to gain some more experience performing in front of people before they graduate!
Never played before? No problem!
Rock 101 is designed to get kids who have no experience proficient on their instrument while having fun playing in a band. Students who learn a new instrument in a band setting will have more fun, improve quicker and will also make friends that love music as much as they do! Students will learn about their instrument within their private lessons and take that knowledge and apply it within the rehearsal setting. Students will not only learn the basics of playing their instrument but will be given a thorough, solid foundation in music theory, stagecraft, operating equipment properly and safely and introduce stage presence!
Does your child already have experience playing in a band or taking private lessons?
That is awesome and we're so excited to begin the journey to graduation into Performance Program! Most students who have experience playing already graduate out much quicker than first-time players. Students with experience will take their playing to the next level while in Rock 101 by filling any gaps in music theory knowledge, learning about rehearsal ettiquette at School of Rock, keeping in time with others, stagecraft, operating equipment properly and safely and improving their stage presence! We're ready to graduate them as soon as they have met all requirements to advance.
Performance Program is our advanced program and we want to ensure our students have all the knowledge and experience they need to thrive upon graduation!
Graduating from Rock 101
Rock 101 is the journey to graduating into our advanced Performance Program. There's no definitive time that students spend in this program and it's not about how quickly you graduate. What's more important to us is setting up our students for success by laying down a solid musical foundation of playing your instrument, knowledge of music theory, safely operating equipment, rehearsal ettiquette and the beginning of showmanship! Nailing down a good practice routine will be one of the most important skills they'll develop in Rock 101.
Upon enrollment, each student is given our Rock 101 Graduation Checklist, see below. During their time in Rock 101, their class directors and our Music Directors work closely together on your child's progress. When students are approaching their graduation, we will schedule their first Evaluation Check In to help their instructor hone in on what still needs to be improved before taking the leap into Performance Program!
