Meet Justin:
What was your first concert?
The first concert I remember seeing was Sting with Annie Lennox with my parents when I was about 12. As a bass player who also sings, Sting is a massive inspiration to me, and I love how polished his show is.
What was your most recent concert?
The last concert I saw was Radiohead at Madison Square Garden in New York City a few months ago - Radiohead is probably my favorite active band, so that was an extraordinary experience.
what is a concert you wish you could re-live?
One concert I wish I could relive was when I saw REM in 2008, with Modest Mouse (featuring Johnny Marr of the Smiths) and The National supporting. I think I was too young to appreciate how awesome that bill was at the time, and now that all of those bands are some of my all-time favorites, I kick myself for not having been as into those bands back then.
what's your favorite song to play?
My favorite song to play on bass is probably "Back In The Saddle" by Aerosmith. Which is kind of funny because I don't really listen to Aerosmith anymore otherwise. "Myxomatosis" by Radiohead is really fun too.
which musician, alive or dead, do you wish you could tour with?
I would absolutely adore to play bass live for the bands Alt-J or Local Natives. Filling in for Fleet Foxes would absolutely be a dream come true as well.
what is the best part of teaching?
My favorite part of teaching is that by showing someone else how to play, it makes me be on top of my technique and abilities. It's also extremely rewarding to see someone get excited when they are aware of their own progress - which makes both the student and teacher want to work harder!
