Music programs at School of Rock Coral Gables combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices

School of Rock Coral Gables is proud to serve the Coral Gables community—as well as surrounding areas like South Miami, Pinecrest, Dadeland, Kendall, and Westchester—with a revolutionary music education approach. Our quality music lessons are taught by real, practicing musicians and students can learn to rock out on guitar, keyboards, drums, and vocals, across many genres. The Miami Coral Gables area has a highly diverse music scene and is home to major artists like Ariana Grande and Camilla Cabello. Students can develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment, and gain confidence like true rock stars by jamming together in a band with friends. Our students perform at community-based festivals like Carnaval on the Mile, the Beaux Arts Festival of Art, and the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Rock 101 music program in Miami for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Coral Gables's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Coral Gables have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Miami are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Coral Gables who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Performance
Ages 8-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Coral Gables is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Coral Gables Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Miami music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Coral Gables's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Miami music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Miami
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Coral Gables, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Coral Gables, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Coral Gables, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Miami is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Coral Gables who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

Adult music program in Miami for students over 18
Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Coral Gables's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Coral Gables is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Miami.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Coral Gables Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Miami.

House Band
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock Coral Gables House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Coral Gables's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at FL rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Miami and the rest of FL. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

AllStars
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

The Path to Take the Stage

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Brian Liebman

Brian Liebman’s love for rock music and the guitar began when the guitar was bigger than him. As a kid, he began to take guitar lessons, practicing and developing his talents for performing. After playing the guitar for 27 years, he has become one of the South Florida area’s most dedicated guitar instructors. After working for years in multiple local music stores and music programs since 1997, he began to instruct rock band programs for kids in 2007.

As a music director, Brian found his calling in sharing his skills to develop the talents of others, mostly kids and teens with a strong interest in playing rock music. In 2017, he completed a Master of Music Education degree from Florida International University.

In addition to teaching a large number of guitar lessons and directing rock band programs, Brian is the guitarist for the rock group Smitty the Band, which has been a live and studio band in Miami since 2005. Their first full-length album, “The World I See,” was released in 2013. Between being a musician, live performer, and music educator, Brian has a strong and mindful approach to understanding the genre of rock music. He is a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher at School of Rock Coral Gables.

Jessica Guthas is a dynamic drum teacher, guitar teacher, and bass guitar teacher at the School of Rock Coral in Gables. Jessica started playing drums at the age of 8, taking lessons with the established John Snider of Eddie Money’s band. From there she began her musical journey, becoming part of local youth rock ensembles. During this time, she also started playing guitar and bass.

After high school, Jessica began teaching drum lessons in local music stores. Though a professional drummer, Jessica had a greater desire to learn about music production and the music business. She earned her Bachelor of Music, an audio engineering certification, and ultimately her Master's Degree in Music Business from Full Sail University.

Jessica is the guitarist for the established band, Your Favorite Franchise. She has been learning, playing, and teaching drums, guitar, and bass most of her life. Her students enjoy her good sense of humor and upbeat personality.

Erick is a drum teacher at the School of Rock in Coral Gables, as well as a School of Rock graduate. He has lived the student experience for nearly a decade of his life and is active in Miami's local music scene. Through years of drumming, he has studied a multitude of genres, his primary influences being funk, alternative, and progressive Rock. Erick is constantly in search of new material that pushes him to improve his drumming, and he shares that philosophy with his students while still making sure they are fulfilling their personal musical endeavors.

Ryan Caraballo is a musician with 17 years of experience under their belt. A graduate of the New World School of the Arts classical voice program Ryan has performed all throughout Florida as both a soloist and a member of the New World School of the Arts concert choir, additionally Ryan has performed with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami and the Florida All-State Concert-Choir as a featured soloist. Ryan is a voice teacher at the School of Rock in Coral Gables with an emphasis on vocal pedagogical backed technique and an affinity for 90’s alternative and 70’s disco.
Drum Teacher Andrew Alonso

Drum Teacher
Andrew Alonso is a drum instructor at the School of Rock in Coral Gables. He began his musical journey at the age of 7 as a School of Rock student. During which, he also learned to play the guitar, bass, piano, and harmonica to expand his understanding of the role each instrument plays in an ensemble.

Andrew attended Christopher Columbus High School and was a member of the jazz band, which was awarded Best Jazz Ensemble and Best Overall Ensemble at the World Strides Music Competition. He is currently working toward his Bachelor of Music in Music Industry at the University of Miami, studying under the renowned Steve Rucker of the Bee Gees and John Yarling, a respected drummer in Miami, Florida.

In addition to his studies, Andrew is involved in recording sessions, co-writing, and performing live shows with up-and-coming artists from various genres, including country, funk, rock, folk, R&B, soul, and blues, among countless others.

Adrian Perez

Adrian is one of our versatile instructors who teaches a variety of instruments. He is an active participant in both Miami’s rock and jazz scenes, performing in many different groups and styles, primarily on electric and upright bass.

He has spent many years listening to, playing, and studying music from around the world, with a special appreciation for jazz and all things experimental. With experience as a teacher, performer, band leader, composer, and producer, Adrian continues to seek opportunities and broaden his horizons.

Being a School Of Rock graduate himself, he is enthusiastic to give students the same appreciation and dedication for music that his teachers instilled in him. Adrian is a bass, guitar, drums, and piano teacher at both the School of Rock in Coral Gables, and the School of Rock in Doral, Florida.

Krish is one of our school’s drum teachers and rehearsal instructors. He is a current student at the University of Miami, earning a bachelor's degree in the music industry. Krish is a professional musician and producer outside of school spending 11 years at the School of Rock West Los Angeles and having experience in 30+ shows and multiple years in Houseband. He has performed with various bands, and recorded and published professional songs. He has played in many prominent venues around the LA district. In addition to the drums, he has had years of experience playing and taking music lessons in instruments like bass and guitar. Krish loves listening to and playing rock and roll music, driving inspiration from bands like Led Zepplin, The Grateful Dead, and The Doors. Krish is a drum, bass, and guitar teacher at the School of Rock in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida.

Joshua Czerwiec teaches guitar, keyboard, and vocals at the School of Rock in Coral Gables. He has been playing music since the age of 12 and has studied at the University of Miami. Josh is passionate about spreading the joy of music through teaching and helping his students accomplish their goals to reach the next level!

Coleman is a bass and guitar instructor at the School of Rock Coral Gables. He graduated from the School of Rock Austin, where he attended for eight years and performed in over 30 shows. He was also a member of the House Band for multiple years.

Coleman attends the University of Miami and is working towards a music industry degree. Coleman has performed and recorded with various bands and artists around the Austin area. He enjoys listening to and playing all kinds of music, especially Steely Dan and the Wings.

Mitchell Mattox

Born and raised in Arizona, Mitchell Mattox learned the joy of music from listening to Motown and classic rock on the radio- his favorite band and first concert being Rush in 2007. After playing the game Rock Band 2 for dozens of hours with his brother, Mitchell decided to try out the real thing by taking drum lessons from a seasoned local teacher, Clyde Score. School orchestras and jazz bands steered him in a new musical direction, exposing him to the music of Count Basie and Miles Davis among numerous others; he still loved punk and ska all the while. An experienced professional drummer and former Miami resident Chad Eisinger mentored Mitchell, teaching him and guiding him through college auditions. At the University of Miami, Mitchell filled his days and nights with as many playing opportunities as possible- from studio sessions to rehearsals and gigs. After graduating fall of 2019, Mitchell has been a teacher, touring drummer, session musician, music producer, and more. Based in South Miami, Mitchell has played on stages around the US, London, and Mexico.

David is a dedicated and experienced musician with over eight years of playing and performing experience. Originally from Cali, Colombia, he specializes in guitar, bass, and piano, bringing a well-rounded and dynamic approach to music education.

As a passionate multi-instrumentalist, David thrives on inspiring students to discover their unique musical voices. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Music Business & Technology, he combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the creative process to empower students of all skill levels.

Whether teaching foundational techniques or guiding advanced players, David is committed to helping every student succeed while cultivating a love for music that lasts a lifetime.

Born and raised in Miami Beach, FL, Nicole Spinelli is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, teacher, and intern in music therapy. She has been practicing and pursuing music for over 18 years, beginning at the age of 4 with voice and piano, and later gravitating to clarinet and saxophone. At the age of 16, Nicole became the drum major of her high school. As a global musician, she has performed in places like Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Australia in the Sydney Opera House, Washington D.C. for Kennedy’s Centorium, Steinmetz Hall in Orlando, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for performances like Carmina Burana and musicals like In the Heights and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She loves listening, playing, and teaching music of all different kinds to all ages.

Juan is a drum instructor at School of Rock Coral Gables and has played drums since he was 13 years old when he got his first beginner drum set and began his journey into music. He started by studying music theory, basic drumming rudiments, and performance at an academy in Venezuela.

Juan later developed his skills through private lessons and self-study. In addition to drumming, he also has experience with percussion and a bit of saxophone. Over the years, he has been involved in two choirs—one focused on rock music and another specializing in Christmas and traditional songs.

A passionate listener of all types of music, Juan’s personal genre preferences vary, including rock, jazz, Latin, funk, and reggae. Currently, he is working on two personal music projects with friends—one exploring Brazilian music and the other focused on rock. With a deep understanding of music, Juan continues to expand his musical horizons while sharing his knowledge and love of music with others.

What I like about the program is that my kids LOVE it!

This is so different from the music lessons that existed when I was a kid. These kids are actually making music and learning to play as a band. The performances are so impressive, and watching the kids gain confidence and express themselves on stage is priceless.

The structure around how kids learn is amazing.

Taking lessons to learn an instrument is one thing, but learning how to be a part of a band is on another level. These kids are learning how to communicate, respect people and their opinions, and how to be accountable for themselves. It’s more than just music here.
