Meet the Instructor: Q&A with Morgan at School of Rock

1. Who or what is your single biggest source of inspiration?

My dad is my biggest source of inspiration. He has always taught me to work hard and be my own person, and I think that's super important in my life. I took a lot of his advice to mind growing up, and that is a part of how I learned to handle any situation life brings me.

2. what famous musician, dead or alive, would you like to have dinner with?

I feel like this would be a bit stereotypical coming from a rock musician, but I think it would be Kurt Cobain. From his art, lyrics and music, I would love to hear his story and his process from his own mind and be able to ask questions about it.

3. what is your favorite brand to work with and why?

I love Reverend Guitars. They are a mom and pop company who invest more in quality and support of smaller bands & artists as opposed to companies who care about making the most money. The tone, feel and style is exactly what I look for.

4. what is your favorite line from a song?

"Have I run too far to get home?" from Alice in Chains' "Would."

5. what is the best live music performance you have seen?

I saw a band called Dazey and the Scouts in Brooklyn in 2022. This band went their separate ways before their album got successful, and did one last reunion show together. It was amazing to see true emotions & gratitude on stage, and see their flaws since they had not played together in a long time. This was a great reminder that successful musicians & role models aren't perfect, and that did not not stop them from succeeding. Plus, I was one of the lucky ones to see the last show of Dazey and the Scouts.

6. Which three words do you think of when you think "school of rock?"

“Changed my life”. I was a student here and my career or life would not be what it is without School of Rock!

7. what do you hope your students will take away from your lessons, or show?

I always hope for advancement in their instruments, but also learn how to enjoy performing and playing. One of the most important aspects for my students is for them to also learn how to be their own person, their own musician, and advocate for themselves. At the end of the day, this is their journey as a musician, and/or this is their show. I am here to teach and guide, but in the end I want them to learn how to be self-sufficient and know what is best for them. I want to show them that they belong here!
