School of Rock Glenbrook Student Embarking On Nationwide Music Tour

NORTHBROOK, IL — Camryn Napoli is in rare company. The John Hersey High School sophomore was recently selected to perform with the School of Rock AllStars music program, the first-ever student at School of Rock Glenbrook to accomplish the feat. According to Erica Vazzano, general manager of the business at 3139 Dundee Road, fewer than 1 percent of more than 62,000 students from School of Rock programs across the United States are selected for the honor.

"The AllStars are the best of the best from our global network of schools at School of Rock. Once students have a few shows under their belt, they have the opportunity to audition for the summer tour of a lifetime," Vazzano told Patch.

For being selected, Napoli, who is a keyboard student at School of Rock Glenbrook, will now embark on a music program tour, starting Friday through Aug. 6. According to Vazzano, students will take part in an authentic touring experience, which including things like traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity, and playing music nightly at famous venues and festivals. Napoli will specifically be playing in the southeast region of the United States with tour stops planned in Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis and Charlotte.

School of Rock Glenbrook opened in August 2020 with Napoli joining the next year. She began by playing keyboards in the Rock 101 program, before eventually graduating into the Performance Program. She is currently a member of the school's House Band, which is an audition-only band that plays gigs throughout the local community.

"Camryn is a classically trained musician with a passion for rock music," said Dave Vazzano, School of Rock Glenbrook music director. "That in combination with her drive to progress on her instrument and her enthusiasm to learn helped her become this school's first School of Rock All Star."

According to Erica Vazzano, the audition process Napoli went through included several stages. First, she auditioned at the local school, before moving on to the International AllStars team by submitting a video of her live performance. When that video was reviewed by judges, Napoli was invited to a live audition, where the judges pushed her through.

"This remarkable opportunity allows our students to showcase their unwavering dedication to music and natural talent on prestigious stages nationwide. We are so proud of Camryn for this amazing accomplishment and beyond excited for her," Erica Vazzano said.

Vazzano added that the tour serves a dual purpose, as it raises awareness for mental health. School of Rock has partnered with the Society of the Prevention of Teen Suicide to "promote health practices on the road as a touring musician." A portion of the ticket sales and donations collected during the tour will support SPTS.

School of Rock, founded in Philadelphia in 1998, has more than 500 schools open and in development across 15 global markets.
