Do you remember the Jack Black movie of the same name from the early 2000's? If you've ever wanted to develop your musical talent or are interested in classes for your child, you will be excited to learn that the Triad will soon have its very own music school for both children and adults!
Recently I was able to connect with Stephanie who is part of the School of Rock Greensboro team to get the scoop on what's coming in the next few months! I have always been interested in learning to play the guitar, so I am definitely going to look into their program for adults since I'm a total novice and it does not require prior musical experience! Some of the children's options include Rock 101 (ages 8-13), Rookies (ages 6-7), Little Wing (ages 3-5) and songwriting (ages 12+).
Origin Story
School of Rock Greensboro started with a love for music. Friends and family quickly came together realizing Greensboro, NC was lacking a solid music program available to everyone. Owners Gary Bilello and Greg Stampfl are the founders of the School of Rock Greensboro franchise. Greg has over 40 years of music experience and Gary is an entrepreneur with knowledge of owning and operating a business making them the perfect fit. Rounding out the team is Gary’s son Tony, a local musician, and Greg’s daughter Stephanie who brings management and customer service experience. The foursome makes a solid team, building the business for future generations to come.
School of Rock has received numerous awards for their franchise model and culture. School of Rock helps aspiring musicians master skills, unleash creativity, and develop tools they need to thrive in life. This is a performance-based program for all skill levels, ages, and musical aspirations. School of Rock is where music students grow into real musicians. School of Rock's patented, results-driven programs combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices, making School of Rock the ultimate music school for kids and adults.
Construction for the Greensboro location will begin in August and the school will open in December 2023. We are so excited to bring something new to Greensboro! No matter what, music always brings people together. Look out for us at local events around the Triad!
They offer guitar, bass guitar, piano, keyboard, drum and singing lessons, and their method involves teaching children and adults to perform alongside others at live venues!
A little more about their patented method, via their website:
Traditional music education approaches rarely teach students how to perform with other musicians. The patented School of Rock Method™ using Performance Based Music Education is different. We combine one-on-one instruction with group rehearsals and live performances, teaching students how to play together as a band. Our version of recitals are real rock shows at real venues in front of live audiences. Each year, School of Rock puts on thousands of rock shows as part of our curriculum, all featuring School of Rock students from around the world. Learning music the School of Rock way is fun and effective.
School of Rock starts students on their lifelong musical journey by teaching the songs that inspire them. As part of the School of Rock Method, our SongFirst approach uses classic songs to teach technique and theory. This method helps students remain excited about their music education and eager to practice. For example, we may teach students how to play a classic rock guitar solo, and use it as the foundation for introducing scales and mechanics.
