What is Drum Core?
Drum Core is our new program offered at all School of Rock Cleveland locations, specially designed for kids ages 7-11 with no prior drumming experience. This foundational program is the perfect starting point for aspiring young drummers and teaches essential skills to help students play drums confidently in a live-band setting, paving the way for a smooth transition into our Rock 101 program and beyond!
Drummers are the back-bone of any song and essential in keeping the band together and on beat. Through engaging group rhythm exercises and guided jam sessions with our drum instructors, Drum Core accelerates students' growth, preparing them to lead songs on stage faster than with private lessons alone.
Students enrolled in Drum Core are expected to own and practice on a full drum kit at home. If your child is not yet ready to commit to drums but interested in music, our Rookies program is the perfect place for them to start!
What Does a Drum Core Class Look Like?
Students will bring their personal drumsticks and a practice pad to this weekly, hour-long class. The group will be introduced to essential drum skills and terminology at the beginning of each class, including:
- Fills
- Rudiments
- Staying in the Pocket
- Keeping a Groove
- Stick Grip
- Tempo
- Time Signature
- Notation and Song Charting
After working on these new skills, students will jam to real rock songs to get them prepped for playing with a full band! Students will then continue building their skills with their private drum instructor, which is included in the Drum Core program.
Drum Core at this location is currently being offered on Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 PM.
