BACK TO SCHOOL...OF ROCK

The Performance Program is School of Rock's hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. Utilizing the patented School of Rock Method, Performance Program consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience, and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, and refine the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, Performance Program students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a live audience.

LED ZEPPELIN

rock 103 | ages 13-hs senior | mondays, 5:15pm-7:15pm

Imagine the year is 1969 and the heaviest thing you've ever heard was The Beatles. You throw on track 1 of Led Zeppelins debut album to hear "Good Times Bad Times" and your mind is blown. Consisting of Jimmy Page on guitar, Robert Plant on vocals, John Paul Jones on bass and keys, and drummer John Bonham, Led Zeppelin broke the boundaries of rock n' roll and successfully cemented themselves as the one of the soundtrack bands of the 1970's.  They are even often cited as one of the progenitors of other genres, such as heavy metal. The incredible body and variety of songs that this band produced has made them completely timeless.

Listen to: Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, Good Times Bad Times, Ramble On, Kashmir, Rock and Roll, D'yer Mak'er, etc.

MUSE VS. RADIOHEAD

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | WEDNESDAYS, 5:15PM-7:15PM

The creativity exhibited by both Muse and Radiohead is difficult to describe but we'll try.  No genre is off limits when it comes to sounds these bands choose to incorporate. Take  romantic classical, electronic, pop, jazz and blues, throw it in a blender with distorted guitar, live drums, and crooning vocals and you can start to get an idea of what to expect.

Muse formed in 1994 and features guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard. They have released seven albums and have won two Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, and five MTV Europe Music Awards. Radiohead formed in 1985 and features vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Thom Yorke, guitarist/keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood, bassist Colin Greenwood (yes, they’re related) and drummer/percussionist Philip Selway. They have released nine studio albums, and were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.

Listen to:
Muse: Uprising, Knights of Cydonia, Madness, Hysteria
Radiohead: Paranoid Android, Karma Police, 2 + 2 = 5, Fake Plastic Trees
