We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of you who have stuck by our side during the difficult time of self-quarantine and the issuance of the stay at home orders. We also want to welcome our newly enrolled students to School of Rock Lafayette. We consider our school community to be a family and we appreciate your continuing support. We’d like to update you on the plans for School of Rock Lafayette moving forward.
School of Rock has been working closely with Dr. Nina Shapiro (http://drninashapiro.com/about-the-doctor) in order to ensure the health and safety of our staff, students, and community. Following her recommendations and local restrictions, we are using a phased approach to return to onsite instruction. The better we adhere to these guidelines, the faster we can get back to doing what we love.
The state of Louisiana’s current phase will determine how we operate. The following are our general guidelines of operation for Phases 1 - 4.
Phase 1
- Only staff will be allowed in the schools to teach remotely. During this time, all staff will adhere to the following requirements / recommendations:
- Washing / sanitizing hands upon arrival and frequently throughout the day;
- Sanitizing work areas regularly throughout the day;
- Staff will wear a mask (as provided by SoR or personal mask) during their time in the school(s);
- Maintain social distancing of 6 feet at all times;We will also follow any local regulations and additional precautions deemed necessary during this time in order to ensure your student(s) return to a healthy and sanitary environment.
- Staff will undergo additional safety and protocol training specifically related to the strict guidelines they and students will be required to follow while in the school.
- Please note that some instructors may not feel comfortable conducting remote lessons in the school until Phase 2. For such cases, the instructors will be allowed to continue to teach remotely from home.
Phase 2
Staff will continue to adhere to the requirements of Phase 1.
Remote lessons will remain an option for students that wish to continue staying home at this time. If you wish to continue with remote lessons during Phase 2, please contact the school.
IMPORTANT: Students and staff will be allowed to enter the schools to take part in 1:1 lessons. In rooms that are large enough for social distancing, the student and teacher will be allowed to be in the same room. If not, arrangements will be made to conduct the lesson in a larger room. Lessons will be staggered to ensure that this is possible. Group sessions can also begin during phase 2 where social distancing and group size requirements can be met.
ALL STUDENTS MUST:
- Wash / sanitize hands upon arrival and frequently throughout the day;
- Wear a mask during their time in the school;
- No more than 10 people in a room at a time, while maintaining social distancing;
- Only be at the school for their scheduled lesson or rehearsal (no hanging out);
- Will not be allowed to use water fountains or water coolers. Please have them bring their own water bottles.
- Bring their own picks and drumsticks. All guitarists and bassists must bring their own instrument. Drums and keys will be sanitized between lessons and before rehearsals.
- Vocalists are now required to bring their own microphone to rehearsals. We can help you make the right selection for your student. Due to the increased breathing and exposure inherent in singing, vocalists will sing behind plexiglass barriers.
- We love our parents, siblings and family members, but please understand that we can only have a limited number of students and staff in the school at the same time. We request that you only come into the school to handle any business as needed and that you remain outside of the school for the duration of your student’s lesson.
- Please do not gather in the front desk area or the parent area. This is all for the health and safety of the students and staff.
- In order to ensure the utmost sanitary standards, we may have to monitor the entry doors and open the doors for you.
- Please help us by explaining to your student(s) that wearing a mask and washing / sanitizing their hands is required. Staff will ensure that this is happening.
- We will also have plexiglass partitions in place at the front desks for further protection for our Studio Coordinator and GM.
- Any non-students (family members/babysitters/etc…) that enter the school must wear a mask.
REHEARSALS:
All requirements for entering the school for lessons apply to rehearsals.
