LAKE OSWEGO Ore. (KPTV) - The School of Rock in Lake Oswego is finding its footing after its facility was destroyed in the winter storm last month.
Owner Jon Graf found the 2,700 square-foot space filled with three inches of water. The flooding damaged drum kits, amps, guitars and office supplies.
“It didn’t occur to me until I was back in the rehearsal room, where I’m looking at an outlet strip underwater, and I’m like ‘oh electricity,’” Graf said. “It was bleak when it happened, and nobody went back into the space.”
After the flooding, the space developed mold, forcing the 215 students from in-person lessons to remote learning.
“With the burnout that they experienced in the pandemic; it just doesn’t work for a lot of folks. Even though they’re doing it, they’re being really good sports but it’s hard.”
At the time, students were getting ready for a show in January. Luckily, they were able to rehearse at their Portland location. But now, students are rehearsing in temporary spaces as they prep for their show in April.
Graf said renovating the space and clearing it of mold could take months, and said he will likely look for a new permanent space that can serve rehearsals and lessons
