Every day, we watch our students grow from beginner musicians to confident and inspiring rock stars in their community. Browse photos, videos, posts and more to find out why School of Rock Princeton is more than just your local music school.
Unlike traditional music lessons that focus solely on one-on-one instruction, School of Rock Princeton is the best of both worlds: weekly private lessons with group rehearsals where students learn to play in a band setting and the chance to perform live. Our School of Rock Method™ is performance-based, allowing students to learn by playing real songs and performing live at local venues in Lawrence Township and surrounding areas.
We offer programs for virtually all ages and stages of musical experience:
Little Wing: Ages 4-5
Rookies: Ages 6-7
Rock 101: Ages 8-12
Opening Act: Ages 13-18
Performance Program: Ages 8-18
Adult Performance Program: Ages 18+
House Band & AllStars: Audition-based programs for advanced students
You bet! We welcome musicians of all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. We design our programs to meet students where they are and help them progress at their own pace. Programs like Little Wing, Rookies, Rock 101 and Opening Act are specifically designed for beginners.
While we recommend having an instrument at home for practice, it's not required for lessons! School of Rock Princeton provides instruments during in-school sessions and rehearsals. When you're ready to purchase your own instrument, our staff can offer recommendations, and you can even purchase instruments through our GearSelect program.
Program costs vary based on the specific program and promotional offers. Please contact us at (609) 890-7090 for current pricing. Unlike typical hourly music lessons, our programs include weekly private lessons, group rehearsals, and live performances in local venues.
The best way to start is by scheduling a free trial lesson. You can sign up on our website, call us at (609) 890-7090, or visit us at 1761 Princeton Ave, Lawrence Township, NJ 08648. Our instructors will assess your child's skill level and interests during your trial to recommend the best program.
We offer free trial lessons so you can experience our teaching method firsthand before committing to a program. During the trial, students get to meet our instructors, try out instruments, and get a feel for our approach.
Students can switch instruments if they discover a different instrument that better suits their interests. Our instructors will work with them to transition and develop skills on their new instrument.
Performance Program students typically perform live shows every 2-3 months at local venues around Lawrence Township and the greater Princeton area. Rock 101 and Opening Act students usually have 2-3 performances per year. Special events, additional programs and camps often culminate with performances as well.
While rock music is our foundation, we teach a variety of genres, such as alternative, pop, punk, metal, blues, and more. Our curriculum incorporates songs from different eras and styles to provide a well-rounded music education.
The School of Rock Method™ is our patented, performance-based approach to music education. Students learn music theory, technique, and skills through playing popular songs rather than abstract exercises. This SongFirst™ approach keeps students engaged and motivated while building their musical proficiency.
We do! Our teachers offer our regular programs year-round, plus special summer camps focused on different genres, artists, and skills. Our summer camps include themes like Beatles, Pop Punk, 90s Music, Green Day, Taylor Swift, and more.

Parents are welcome to observe lessons, especially during the early stages of a student's musical journey. The best part of music is being able to share it together!
Our instructors are experienced musicians dedicated to teaching. You can see a full list of our current instructors online here. All School of Rock instructors are passionate about helping students develop musically and personally.
Our instructors are accomplished musicians with teaching experience. Many have degrees in music, professional performance experience, and specialized training in our School of Rock Method™. Most importantly, they're passionate about sharing their love of music with students of all ages and skill levels.
Private lessons are one-on-one, providing personalized instruction. Group rehearsals typically maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio to ensure every student receives attention and guidance. The exact ratio varies by program but is designed to optimize both individual growth and collaborative learning.
