Man I wish I had this opportunity when I was starting out in music. Although Rock 101 is a stepping stone to get your child into the rewarding opportunity of Performance program, it is an extreme amount of value all on it's own.
The first element of our Rock 101 program is a weekly private lesson, where students work with their teacher on songs and techniques that inspire your specific child. They'll also learn songs they are assigned by their Rock 101 director, chosen from a list of School of Rock approved songs that will get beginners feeling like they can do it, which in turn brings more inspiration.
The 2nd element of Rock 101 is the weekly hour and a half group class where they will learn essential theory concepts like the major scale, understanding 4/4 time signature, vs odd time signatures, songwriting skills, and more. Then...we JAM! They will learn to play assigned Rock 101 songs together in a supportive, live band format. A typical Rock 101 class will have 1 to 2 kids on each instrument, giving them ample time to run the songs and begin to learn how to work together on stage, listen to their band mates, and ultimately gain self confidence as well as musicianship. I have had child after child come in and the parent says they are not sure about Rock 101 because their child has anxiety about being in groups. After a few weeks of the positive reinforcement, and understanding that all the other kids are in the same boat, they bond together as a band and blossom into a more confident version of themselves.
