Now Enrolling Summer 2025 Shows!

At School of Rock Queens, we don't teach music to put on shows - we put on shows to teach music. Students are assigned songs selected to develop them as musicians, and work on them in private lessons with their instructors, as well as in weekly rehearsals with groups made up of their peers. The season culminates with a performance at our seasonal showcase, where they can show you everything they've been working on throughout the season!

See the end of this article for important dates, and ways to sign up for the new season!

rock 103: punk

ages 13 - hs senior | tuesdays, 5:15 pm - 7:15 pm

PUNK IS SCHOOL OF ROCK'S SUMMER 2025 FEATURED SHOW

Punk Rock rose to popularity as a rebellious response to the overcomplicated, pretentious direction that Prog Rock had taken in the 1970s, and as a voice for the anti-establishment movement following the post-Vietnam era. Marked by short, energetic songs with little ornamentation, Punk Rock is more about spirit and feeling than musical technique. This show covers the classic period of the genre, including bands like Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, Blondie, The Stooges, and Patti Smith. Students might hear striking similarities of styles to current Pop Punk bands like Green Day and My Chemical Romance, as the legacy of the original generation of Punk bands continues to inspire artists today. While Punk is a great show for less experienced rockers, it still challenges more advanced students and teaches them the art of showmanship and stage presence. Don your spikes, mohawk, and ripped jeans and get ready for a season of Punk Rock!

what is the featured show?

Each season the entire School of Rock system celebrates one of our most educational show themes, with special experiences, cool custom merch, and new educational content. This Featured Show will serve as just one of the several diverse themes we always offer each season, but we hope that by rallying around a certain theme each season with other schools around the world, we can create a great experience for students that instills a sense of the larger community they are a part of.

rock 103: RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS VS. NO DOUBT

AGES 13 - HS SENIOR | WEDNESDAYS, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. No Doubt is a high-energy showdown between two of California’s most iconic bands. Blending funk-rock, ska, punk, and alt-rock, this show highlights the electrifying energy, infectious grooves, and unforgettable hooks that made both bands legendary. From RHCP’s slap-bass-driven jams and wild stage presence to No Doubt’s soaring vocals and ska-infused rhythms, this set will have the crowd moving from start to finish. Vocally, the show demands both power and versatility, shifting between Gwen Stefani’s dynamic melodies and Anthony Kiedis’ rapid-fire funk-rap delivery. Guitarists must balance funk rhythms, punk aggression, and melodic solos, while bassists take on Flea’s signature slap-bass wizardry alongside No Doubt’s tight, groove-driven lines. Drummers face a fusion of funk, punk, and reggae-inspired beats that require both precision and explosive energy, and keyboardists will add depth, texture, and synth elements to fully capture the sonic landscapes of both bands. This show is a test of energy, groove, and versatility, pushing every musician to bring their A-game.

rock 103: metallica

ages 13 - hs senior | fridays, 5:15 pm - 7:15 pm

The biggest metal band of all-time, Metallica rose to prominence in the 1980s as leaders of the “Thrash Metal” scene, pairing heavy, aggressive guitar riffs with fast, driving rhythms, all punctuated by vocalist James Hetfield’s signature snarl. Their albums Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are widely regarded as two of the best Metal albums ever recorded. The band found crossover success in the early ‘90s with ambitiously well-crafted songs like Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, and Sad But True, leading to Grammy wins and mainstream recognition. Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, and the band’s influence permeates all of the Metal that has come to follow. A must-do show for any aspiring shredders!

GRAD SCHOOL: blues legends

AGES 18+ | MONDAYS, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

The Blues is a genre that transcends time and cultural boundaries, and has influenced, in some capacity, nearly every song that has come since its original inception. This show is a crash course in the great blues players over the years and within its setlist, it shows how the torch was passed throughout the years. From the original blues pioneers to the '80s blues revival and beyond, this show is not only a great lesson in instrument improvisation, but also why the blues will never fade away! Traditional artists like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor, and Albert King will be showcased, along with more contemporary blues masters like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, and Gary Clark Jr. Throughout the many changes in blues music over the years, it still remains the most influential genre from which all modern rock is derived. One of the greatest aspects of the genre is the way it remembers its creators, innovators, and pioneers. It truly is music that will continue to stand the test of time as we celebrate those that we call “Blues Legends”.

GRAD SCHOOL: best of the 2000's

AGES 18+ | WEDNESDAYS, 7:15 PM - 9:15 PM

The 2000s Show offers a huge variety of music that is sure to satiate any student’s musical appetite. The 2000s has produced more and more artists whose music blends and defies genres, and draws from a greater variety of influences than was available at any previous point in history. At the same time, more traditional bands and artists, including some who started making music in the twentieth century, have adapted to the changing times and continued to thrive. Though it is impossible to place the varied music of the 2000s into one definable style or category, certain themes emerge: 1) an interest in and revival of ‘retro’ sounds using modern technology and sensibilities, and 2) songwriting that draws from a huge diversity of genres and styles, making 21st-century ‘rock’ bands even harder to pin down to one style alone. Examples of blockbuster artists that might be in the setlist include Foo Fighters, RHCP, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Paramore, White Stripes, Adele, The Strokes, Jet, System of a Down, The Darkness, Tool, and many others. This is a perfect show for students of all ages and experience levels and will offer many opportunities to perform across all genres!
