Summer '23 PERFORMANCE THEMES AND REHEARSAL TIMES
These are the musical themes students in the Performance Program will learn this summer at School of Rock Tustin! Student enrolled in Performance attend a private lesson and a group rehearsal every week. In their private lesson, they learn the songs for their band along with the relevant music theory and technique to understand their songs and develop their musicianship. In their rehearsals, they play their songs with other students, preparing for a rock concert.
2000s Pop – Mondays 6:30-8:30pm
In this show, we’ll focus on recent and current artists in Pop and Rock music like Billie Eilish,
Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and beabadoobe. These artists put on exciting live band performances, so this will be a great show for singers and instrumentalists alike!
90s Grunge – Tuesdays 6:30-8:30
When Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind was released, rock music was transformed overnight and the Grunge era began. Students in this show will learn songs by artists like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, L7, and Alice In Chains.
Guns N’ Roses vs Mötley Crüe – Wednesdays 6:00-8:00pm
Two of LA’s most successful hard rock bands, Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe had incredible runs of chart-topping songs and albums that are instantly recognizable to this day. This show will give students a chance to challenge themselves instrumentally while learning some of Rock music’s most iconic songs.
Southern Rock – Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm
This show will expand beyond the typical Skynyrd and Allman Bros repertoire to include recent and current artists like Gary Clark Jr, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Alabama Shakes, Black Crowes, and Bonnie Raitt. Southern Rock blends elements of blues, soul, and country music, giving students exposure to some of the most important sounds and concepts in all contemporary pop and rock music.
Aussie Rock – Fridays 6:00-8:00pm
Students in this show will learn music by some of the great bands that have achieved international success from Australia like Tame Impala, INXS, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizzard, and more. We’ll have a wide range of eras and sounds to choose from, so there will be a lot of variety for students to learn.
Surf Rock – Saturdays 1:00-3:00pm
Surf Rock developed here in Orange County starting in the early 1960s when Dick Dale’s song “Let’s Go Trippin’” launched the national surf music craze. Artists like the Chantays and Surfaris followed up with instrumental hit songs “Pipeline”and “Wipe Out,” and vocal groups like the Beach Boys took the sounds of Surf Rock to mainstream pop audiences.
Ramones – Sundays 1:00-3:00pm
The Ramones’ lightning fast, high energy songs defined the sound and style of early Punk Rock, and their influence is still very present today. This will be a great show for beginner students in particular, with fun parts for students at all levels who are ready to play fast and have fun!
