School of Rock Vancouver offers a wide variety of weekly full-day music camps that are perfect for beginner, intermediate or advanced musicians between the ages of 7- 18 who want to play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or vocals. Students will spend Monday through Friday learning and practicing songs in groups based on the week's theme (such as The Beatles, Classic Rock Rewind, Best of The 90's, Songwriting, Pop Legends & more) - culminating in a live performance on the final day for their family and friends! ABOUT THE JOB
Seasonal Camp Instructors are an integral part of the School of Rock Vancouver team by helping to create an amazing and fun experience for students, while inspiring them to discover their musical potential!
RESPONSIBILITIES
Seasonal Camp Instructors are responsible for making sure camp rehearsals run smoothly and each student is progressing throughout the week. Following the Music Director's lead, instructors help to deliver a fun, educational experience for all the campers. Here are a few key responsibilities;
- Prepare for each day of camp including music instruction, games, and other activities following the School of Rock Camp Curriculum,
- Complete all required training and attend orientation prior to the start of camp season,
- Manage and deliver the daily activities of the camp and manage the progression of each student. This includes running a rehearsal room and providing individual instruction when needed,
- Report daily progress to the Music Director and inform them of any issues with any students, songs or casting decisions
- Run the end of week show by managing the students both on and off the stage, greeting parents, and creating a fun atmosphere for all performers and guests
- Create an inclusive environment and manage student behaviour, reporting issues immediately as per school policies and procedures
- Take students on short field trips outside of the school to local parks or other destinations (summer camps only) as directed by the Music Director
- Help get new students excited about joining a seasonal program at School of Rock
REQUIREMENTS
- Experienced multi-instrumentalist as a performing musician
- Post-secondary education in music or teaching, or working towards completion
- Previous teaching experience is an asset
- Experience as a camp counsellor or previously working with children between the ages of 7-18 in group settings is an asset
- Highly organized with attention to detail
- A welcoming, friendly and outgoing demeanor is essential
- Excellent team player who loves to collaborate with others
- A positive and patient personality
- A clean criminal record background check is required and is a condition of employment
- A current and valid First Aid Certificate (or willing to obtain prior to the first day) is a condition of employment
- This position is entirely in-person at our Vancouver location. No remote work is available.
- Must be able to commit to all shifts throughout the contract / season, including required training, orientations and meetings.
TRAINING
Training will take place in the month leading up to the start of camps, and can be completed remotely at your own pace, but must be completed by the deadline set by the Music Director. An in-person orientation, and additional training will also take place prior to the start of camps and is mandatory to attend. All training will take approximately 6-8 hours to complete.
WORK HOURS & SCHEDULE
We are recruiting instructors for all 2024/2025 seasonal camps. You can apply for one season, or all seasons. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to commit to all three seasons. The current schedule is as follows and is subject to change;
WINTER CAMPS
· Weekly Mon-Fri, December 30th , 2024 – January 3rd, 2025
· 4 Days only each week (Closed on Dec 25th & Jan 1st )
· 8am to 4pm each day
SPRING CAMPS
· Weekly Mon-Fri, March 17 – 28, 2025
· 8am to 4pm each day
SUMMER CAMPS
· Weekly Mon-Fri, June 30 – August 29th, 2025
· 8am to 4pm each day
· Closed July 1st & August 4th
