A BUSY SUMMER AT SCHOOL OF ROCK

June was a busy month for our bands as outdoor summer events ramped up. Here’s all the fun we had this month and what’s ahead in July.

Summer is ramping up and we're taking advantage of the nice weather.

June has been a busy month for our star performers at School of Rock across the state.

Here’s what we did in case you missed it:

WEST DES MOINES SCHOOL:

June 1

It was a hot day as thousands of people packed Water Works Park in Des Moines for the Iowa Craft Brew Festival. While the event is ticketed, free live entertainment from our awesome house band was outside the venue. They played for the crowds at the festival and people who stopped at the Des Moines Biergarten.

June 2

Temperatures were more comfortable on this day at Water Works Park but there were storm chances. Thankfully, it didn’t rain during our marathon show! We showcased all our groups and bands for their season show at the amphitheater as dozens of people enjoyed the tunes from the lawn.

June 6

The Ames Art Walk is a great showcase of local businesses and organizations. From photographers to painters, art comes in many ways, including music! Our West Des Moines house band played during the festivities.

June 7

In the heart of Grimes is one of the grandest summer festivals: Governors Days. The event features many concerts, parades, carnivals, and so much fun! Our West Des Moines house band was honored to take part as one of the performers in the parade.  We also had a School of Rock booth in the festival to greet local festival-goers and introduce our programs.  We also gave away a couple hundred School of Rock balloons!

June 13

A Thursday afternoon favorite. Our West Des Moines house band took the stage at the Valley Junction Farmers Market, as people enjoyed visiting local vendors, and our School of Rock information booth.

June 15

A celebration of the city of Johnston – the Green Days festival draws in hundreds of people to Terra Park every year. The West Des Moines house band took part in the parade despite a constant drizzle of rain for hardy parade-goers.  They also played a two-hour show at the amphitheater.

June 19

Every Wednesday from June through September, there’s a farmer’s market in Waukee at the Historic Triangle. The West Des Moines house band took the stage as people explored treats from local vendors, and visited us at our School of Rock info booth.

ANKENY SCHOOL

June 2

Temperatures were more comfortable on this day at Water Works Park but there were storm chances. Thankfully, it didn’t rain during our marathon show! We showcased all our groups and bands for their season show at the amphitheater as dozens of people enjoyed the tunes from the lawn.

June 23
Iowans celebrated Juneteenth through several community events in June. One of them is the celebration in Ankeny at Wagner Park. Students from our Ankeny band took part in a performance at the Bandshell. Besides music, it was a great opportunity to learn the history and significance behind this holiday.

June 30

From Smoothie King to Fun Chinese, and Zoom Room dog training, all the businesses in our strip mall had open houses on this beautiful afternoon.  Our West Des Moines house band played in the parking lot for attendees.  We invited the community to tour our studio and meet staff while a group of our students tried doing a band rehearsal for the very first time!
