Katelynn Dickinson was born 11 months and one day before her brother Gerrit. The siblings are now in the West Des Moines adult band together. They say that genetic connection helps them click better during performance.
The Dickinson siblings have been playing together at the school for about two years now and joined the adult band recently. Katelynn is a singer, Gerrit is a drummer.
Music was something the two grew up sharing. Their first experience was performing for the church choir. That experience helps them now as they practice new songs.
“Practicing… Since being on the same roof most of the time, we do get to talk about how some of the parts of the song go or what might work with part of the song. I try it out,” Gerrit said.
“It’s really fun,” Katelynn said.
It’s always special to see family members share a stage. We have a few in the School of Rock community.
“We have a connection… I can’t really explain it,” Gerrit shared.
A special bond that can’t be explained between family members, but you can feel it, by watching the duo perform.
