A music performance at a Halloween event turned into an award-winning night for the house band in Cedar Rapids/Marion. The parade and festivities in the Czech Village and New Bohemia neighborhoods (AKA New Bo) drew in a crowd.
"The heart beat of the band" is how Leo McKinney describes being a drummer. An interest that became a passion starting at a young age.
Our adult student bands come together again. Student Driver and After Hours rocked the stage at Torrent Brewing Company in September, the bands were part of the Maximum Ames Music Festival.
A childhood habit led Estella Bowman to start playing music. With help from School of Rock instructors, Estella is now able to play multiple instruments and has been rocking with us for about three years.
Ian Draves is the general manager of the Cedar Rapids/Marion school. Music was a great tool of healing for Ian for many years. Besides managing the school, he also shares his wisdom with kids through classes.
Performing in front of people can be intimidating, and the butterflies seem to pop up only moments before show time. that was the case for Emilee Pettit for years.
More than 250 people packed the Chrome Horse Saloon outdoor stage area in Cedar Rapids to celebrate summer season performances from the School of Rock Cedar Rapids/Marion Rock 101 and Performance Program groups. The house was electric and rocking!
After months of dreaming and building, we are so excited to welcome students of all ages to School of Rock Ankeny. Thank you to the wonderful community for celebrating with us.
Lily Beimer discovered her interest in playing guitar because there happened to be one at her house. Since starting at School of Rock nearly a year ago, she is now more inspired than ever to continue learning new skills.
